UC Mag, (a bi-monthly magazine collection of stories and inspirations of the Unificationist Community) has posted the updates of the UC Mag Road Team, a cross-country expedition intended to gather new contributors and subscribers. The three-man trip combines road travel and digital media to connect communities to each other one story at a time. Their long-term mission: Make the magazine a platform for Unificationism’s global community by getting up close and personal with readers.
As ambassadors for the new magazine, the team of three second generation Unificationists includes interviewer Buster Broadway (Youngnam Heller), videographer Cat Buckhout (Daniel Onoda) and photographer Yofred Moik They helped to create UC Mag’s most recent feature: video interviews that preview the printed interviews in each issue. The recent video projects opened the way for the road trip, which includes an online video-blog component.
The road team set out from its office in New York City on Thursday, March 28 headed for the Unification Church community of Chicago. Their week-long travelogue includes stories, photos and videos on an online blog, accessible from the home page of the UC magazine website, www.ucmag.org.
The team stopped at famous locations en route to Chicago and back, including a restaurant in Clearview, Pennsylvania that boasts the world’s largest burger, as well as Shipshewana—an Amish town in Indiana—in an effort to embrace the culture of other faiths. The sites featured on the trip blog showcase America’s culture. Future road trips aim to show the cultures of our worldwide Unificationist community.
In Chicago, the team interviewed members in many categories of interest for upcoming issues of UC Mag. World travelers Chris and John Ogden shared their stories of intentional travel and their spiritual journey. Artist Taka Cooper explained his paintings, and artist Sarah Eide performed her musical projects. Reiner and Barbara Vincenz, pioneers of the movement in the 1960s, told stories stemming from their years of mission work. In the final interview Jason Eide shared how he rediscovered the church in early adulthood. These interviews have video components to be released onto the website chronologically by the issue in which they will be printed. An announcement will be made when each video is released. Keep an eye out for these updates and experience a taste of the full printed interviews by watching their videos.
Follow the UC Mag Road Team blog at www.ucmag.org. If you missed this week, don’t worry – it is still up and the team is continuing to post videos. UC magazine would like to encourage the community to take this opportunity to meet their brothers and sisters in other parts of the nation and world.
